MINCE PIE RIDES – FEEDBACK

Posted on December 13th, 2022

Dear all

Many thanks for the various messages of support following the decision to cancel the Mince Pie Rides. There was also a lot of understanding from the other clubs and it was certainly the right thing to do in the circumstances. A few notes on what we have done in the aftermath:

  • as mentioned in my previous note, based on the generous donation of the ingredients Carin went ahead with the great wine mulling process (the house smelt amazing) and we have back-filled 15 screw-top bottles with the delicious finished product (the alcoholic version only). We would like to make these available to anyone who donated anything, so please feel free to collect a bottle (one per household) from our porch.
  • I have been in touch with our friends at The Mix in Wantage and they confirm that they are happy to receive the mince pies and cranberry juice. They will distribute these appropriately to the Community Fridge, Community Larder and Food Bank so that they can be enjoyed by those in need over Christmas.
  • the lunch booked for the Fox at Denchworth was a great success, made all the more so by Steve Swanton leading a club hike (a new innovation of ride category!) across the frozen fields to Denchworth. Look out for some photos on the club Facebook page.
  • talking of Steve, he is leading a 1* ride on Saturday (weather permitting) and this will feature a ‘cafe stop’ at Steve and Lorna’s home in Grove, We will take this chance to sample some of the mince pies and mulled wine. Check the website for details of this – you might like to join us for refreshments even if you don’t join the ride..
  • finally, if you haven’t already done so, we would ask you to consider donating to our chosen charity Whizz-Kidz as we would like to cover the shortfall from the cash we would have taken on the Hill. We will be asking the other clubs to consider this as well. The giving page is at:

www.justgiving.com/fundraising/whitehorsecyclechallenge2022

The good news here is that we have already raised £900 via this page (including Gift Aid) and it would be great to get that total to at least £1,000.

Thanks again for your support and we look forward to better cycling weather soon.

Best regards
John
