Hello everyone
As the rain comes down, it seems a good time to work on a newsletter and highlight a few things:
AUTUMN & WINTER PROGRAMME
The main programme of autumn and winter rides will be posted on the website in the next few days. This will give us the core programme but additional rides may be added as we go along. Always keep an eye on the website for the latest information.
MINCE PIE RIDES – Sunday 8th December
It’s always a slightly difficult moment in our Committee Meetings when we find ourselves having to think about Christmas and the depths of winter in planning ahead, but we forced ourselves to do it again recently and we have now set the dates for both our annual Mince Pie Rides and the associated White Horse Cycle Challenge. The Mince Pie Rides to Uffington White Horse Hill will take place on the morning of Sunday 8th December, with mince pies and mulled wine served to all who make it up there. There will be a pub lunch organised afterwards. We will also open up the White Horse Cycle Challenge for individual or group rides up the Hill from 9th November to 7th December. All of this will be in support of the wonderful Whizz-Kidz charity. More details to come.
UPCOMING RIDES
Please note that we have two interesting events coming up: on Saturday 14th September Steve Swanton is leading the annual Ride and Stride day visiting many local churches which will all be open on that day. That same weekend, Katherine Boyce will be leading a mini-tour to Puttenham Barn in Surrey and back. Full details for both of these events are on the website – please book for either as soon as possible.
RIDE LEADERS
The club is entirely reliant on volunteer ride leaders to function and we are constantly grateful for all those who serve in this way. There is always room for more, so if anyone else is inspired to step forward as a ride leader, please let me or Katherine know. We do have a training session coming up in the next few weeks and so it would be good timing to join onto that.
HELP WITH PUBLICITY
If you have a knack with Facebook or an eye for a good photo, we would love to hear from you to help us out with publicising the club a bit more. We have great adventures on our rides and these are often reflected in the website ride reports but we would like to get the good news out to a wider audience, not least as a way of encouraging newcomers to join us. The role is not onerous, but we are looking for someone to manage our Facebook page and be a point of contact with ride leaders and others for gathering stories and photos. Let me know if you would like to do this.
Hopefully see you on a ride soon.
Best regards
John
