Chairman’s Newsletter – April 2024

Posted on April 26th, 2024

Hello everyone

The focus of this Newsletter is our AGM coming up on the evening of Wednesday 8th May. Please note the following details:

The 2024 Cycling UK Wantage AGM will be held as follows:

Logistics:

Date – Wednesday 8th May 2023

Time – 19.00 for food, 19:45 for business

Location – Grove Rugby Club, Wasborough Field Recreation Ground, Cane Lane, Grove, OX12 0FL

Note that for those not familiar with the location the car park is off Cane Lane and if driving you have to approach from the west (off Denchworth Road/Recreation Lane or Brereton Drive). Walking or cycling you can cut through Cane Lane from Main Street. The postcode is accurate and sat nav should manage to get you there! There is plenty of parking. The car park is quite dark and the entrance to the Rugby Club is from the edge of the playing fields (you will see the rear of the building from the car park).

Food details:

The Rugby Club has a good bar and we are bringing in the food courtesy of the Penguin Fish Bar in Wantage. Di Whidborne has kindly offered to sort out the food orders. Menu choices are given below, please let Di know your choices by FRIDAY 3rd MAY so we can pre-order with the shop. Di’s email is dianawhidborne@me.com. Exact money (cash) on the night please.

If there are any additional nominations, please provide a proposer and seconder to Jo (secretary@cyclingukwantage.org.uk) by the end of WEDNESDAY 1st MAY at the latest. If anyone has any publicity/social media experience and would be willing to support us in that area, this would be particularly helpful.

Any member can put forward a Motion for discussion at the AGM. Again, please submit any Motions to Jo (secretary@cyclingukwantage.org.uk) by the end of WEDNESDAY 1st MAY at the latest.

I really encourage as many of you as possible to come along to the AGM – it is a very useful way to get a good overview of what the Club does and how things are progressing. It’s also a great social evening and a rare chance to see people dressed in normal clothes!

OTHER REMINDERS

It has been great to kick off the Tuesday evening rides programme. Note that the 1* rides will join the others in running from next Tuesday, 31st April. Meet at 6.30 at Old Mill Hall. This date is also the first Pub Night of the season, all the rides end at the Fox in Denchworth where riders can either stay for food and drink or head back to Grove from there.

As well as Tuesday evenings, we have monthly off-road rides in the calendar over the next few months. The first one is this coming Sunday morning, starting at 9.30 in Wantage Market Place.

As always, see the website for all ride details, and please contact the ride leader to book onto any rides.

Best regards

John
