Start Time:2:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:A ride out to Uffington for refreshments at the Fox & Hounds enjoying some autumn colours along the way. Heading out through Denchworth, we'll stop to admire the views from the Circourt railway bridge before continuing on to West Challow. There, we will take the metalled bridleway up to Childrey. We'll ride through the springline villages to Kingston Lisle and drop down Fawler Hill into Uffington. After refreshments, we'll return to Grove via Baulking and Goosey, a round trip of about 19 miles. Expect to be back by 5pm.Please let me know if you are planning to come. Our regular social and family ride on the third Saturday of the month, usually with a cafe stop. We cover 16-32km (10-20 miles) at a leisurely pace of 13-16km/h (8-10mph), tackling the occasional hill (nothing too long) and easy off-road track (conditions permitting). |

Although it was overcast all afternoon, the dry conditions and prospect of autumn colours (not to mention the good company) presumably played a part in encouraging people out. And we weren't to be disappointed with some lovely colours in the trees and hedgerows along our route. Notably, there seemed to be an abundance of hawberries, sloes and elderberrres in the hedges. We followed the route as planned splitting into 2 groups along the lanes and into smaller groups of 3 or 4 on two short stretches along the A417. We rather took the Fox and Hounds by surprise given our numbers and they perhaps missed a trick by not having hot chocolate available. After leaving the pub, it felt chillier in a south easterly cross-wind that seemed to have picked up (or perhaps we had just got too snug...). An enjoyably relaxed group to lead. It was lovely to see Sarah B out on her first ride of the season. My thanks to Tim for leading the second group and Anke for sweeping, both for the first time. Our monthly Saturday 1* rides will continue through the winter on the third Saturday afternoon, weather permitting, usually starting at 1pm. Do join us again in November... | ||
