Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Half day ride (45-55km / 30-40 miles), with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph).Starting at the Beacon in Wantage. Lesser used route to Swindon along the spring-line road to Ashbury then to Hinton Parva before tackling the big climb up Fox Hill. Coffee stop at the Three Trees cafe in Chiseldon. Then along NCN Route 45 path down towards Swindon, across the helter-skelter bridge over the M4 and the views of Coate Water. Then Route 26 out to Liddington and back out to the Vale and familiar roads. Finishing at OMH in Grove. 45 miles with some climbing in the first half, route borrowed of John Tranter. |

Six riders including our latest new member David H joined me on the club ride to Swindon. We met at the Beacon and headed uphill via the Springline to Ashbury, which was relativly shaded, past Hinton Pava, up Fox Hill to Chiseldon where we stopped for coffee at the Three Trees farmshop. Onwards to the M4 helter-skelter footbridge to the reservoir along a wonderful shaded converted railway track. We briefly stopped at Coate Water country park to admire the disused 30s jump tower now a nesting place for various birds, then carried on a road closed to traffic towards Shrivenham. Never thought I'd call Swindon pretty but this area is lovely. To Shrivenham along quiet roads back to Denchworth and Grove. Air was pleasant until 1pm then it got hot. Thank you to John T for leading part if the way and Barry and Steve S for sweeping. A great day in good company. | ||
