Steve Sanders commented that it was the sort of riding weather where it is hard not to cry! Setting off from the Market Place at 9.30 the sun was shining, with a threatening cloud in the sky but we were hopeful - the hope lasted about 3 miles. At the top of Hackpen Hill, after riding in 20 minutes with torrential rain and winds that bit through to the bones we agreed we would keep going until the cafe at Lambourn and take stock. On reaching the cafe at Lambourn there was a sign saying "We will be closed until Monday 23rd. We apologise for any inconvenience" We made the decision to return to Wantage on the Lambourn to Ashbury road. For a moment cycling in front of Ashdown House it almost seemed like the weather would turn and favour us. It did not last and we just had to gtit our teath, dig in and get back. Back in Wantage a small group of us rewarded ourselves with coffee and toasted tea cakes at Sainsbury's cafe. Before leaving the cafe we thought it only good manners to let the staff know that we had dripped a lot of water on their floor!Despite the weather we did get out and get a ride in - so that was good. | ||
