Description:A ride of 45-55km at relaxed pace. The plan is to climb over Hackpen Hill, descend to Lambourn and return via Ashbury or Great Shefford, depending on the prevailing weather. This ride will provide an opportunity to climb some hills at your own pace. Tea stop at the end in Wantage or Grove. Lights required for the journey home from tea. |

We regrouped at the top and enjoyed the extensive clear views (rather different from the experience of last Sunday, I gather). Having got our breath back, we sped down into Lambourn. As the wind was from the S-W, I chose to head down the Lambourn Valley, through picturesque Eastbury to Great Shefford; we rolled along at a steady pace. By now the sun had gone in and the temperature was falling, but the forecast rain had yet to appear (and we stayed dry to the end). After a 5 minute stop for refreshments outside the pub in Shefford, we continued on up the A338, turning off towards Woolley, a lovely quiet lane giving a steady climb back up to the Ridgeway. We all enjoyed the descent down Chain Hill and were back in Wantage at a quarter to 4. Three of us stopped for tea at Madison's in Newbury Street while the rest continued to Grove. 27 miles in total. A warm welcome to Andrew and well done to Steve B, who completed his first hilly ride. Thanks to all for your company. Steve S | ||
