Regular Wantage Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:WMP |
Description:This will be a fairly tough and quite hilly all-day ride. I like the symmetry of doing 100km (62 miles) with 1,000m of vertical climbing, so that's what we'll do! Up Chain Hill, Brightwalton, Boxford and over the valley to Marsh Benham. Then I want to introduce you to a hill that strikes fear into the hearts of all Berkshire riders - Combe Gibbet. If the slope doesn't get you, the hangman's noose will! Then a really interesting lunch stop at the Crofton steam pumping station on the Kennet and Avon. Then back via the Bedwyns, Chilton Foliat, Lambourne and Uffington. Oh, and I really want to fit in the gloriously named village of Faccombe... |

It was fairly tough, as predicted, but everyone was up to the challenge, even on the great Combe itself. The Crofton Pumping Station was a very nice lunch stop in a great location by the canal. We also had an impromptu late tea stop at the new cafe in Letcombe Regis - also highly recommended. | ||
