---|
Leader:Robin Tucker |
Start Time:1:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:A 38-40 mile afternoon ride, from Grove to Witney for tea, and back again. Riding pace of ~18km/h (11-13mph). Not very hilly - the hill South from Tadpole Bridge being the main one.Out via Denchworth, Lyford, Fyfield and Stanton Harcourt. Find our way through the cycle paths in Witney to our tea stop at Huffkins (or plan B: Cogges Farm if there are many of us). Return via Ducklington, Aston, Buckland, Charney Bassett, and (inevitably!) Denchworth. |

Then we turned to Lyford and picked our way zig zag to Fyfield. We turned left to the main road and right to cross the Thames - I'd made the route this way round so we did this section downhill and spent the least time possible on a busy road. Over the river, and after a brief pause and the Rose Revived (no beer involved) we rode down the tiny quiet lane to Northmoor and on to Stanton Harcourt, where again we picked up a single track road into Witney, with the final section to Cogges Farm on the cyclepath. The sun came out for the tea stop, and the cake was good - particularly the 'Rolo' cake I think. But Kerry did get stung by a wasp, not so good, though I'm glad to say that it has got better pretty quickly. Setting off again, we followed a crafty route out of Witney, using a cyclepath hidden at the back of an industrial park to get under the A40 and in to Ducklington. I'm glad to say the 3 miles from Ducklington to Aston weren't against a headwind like the last time i rode it. Instead the wind was nicely behind us, which must have helped us up the hill from Tadpole Bridge to Buckland, and then home via Charney Bassett and Denchworth. Clouds were looming, but it wasn't until we had dispersed that the rain started. All in all a very pleasant ride. Quite a lot of miles for a 2*, but mostly flat and quiet. Although we did have quite a few main roads to cross, we weren't actually on them much, and the drivers were all being very polite and helpful. | ||
