Saturday afternoon ride from Grove 3*
Leader:
John Tranter
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
A fairly hilly ride to the south, with the cunning plan of joining the route to be used by the Tour of Britain on Friday 12 September. So we go out through the Vale, up onto the Springline road by White Horse, up Ashbury Hill, down to Lambourn and across to Great Shefford. Then we pick up the Tour route at Boxford and follow it up through the hills to our tea stop (not their's) at the amazing Saddleback cafe. We finish off with the great descent of Chain Hill (interesting to compare our speed with Bradley and co) into Wantage and Grove. Total distance of 41 miles / 66 km with a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph).

Weather:
sunny intervals
Report:
A really nice ride. Good weather, great group, no untoward incidents.

We arrived at the tea stop to find a ploughing competition in full swing and loads of people milling around, but still found tables to sit at so all worked well.

45 mph seemed typical for the Chain Hill descent. We will have to see how the Tour of Britain pros manage on Friday! Just hope they like potholes...
Distance:
65.98 km (41.00 mi)
