Weather was very kind after poor forecasts earlier in the week. A bit of a headwind heading through the Vale but excellent group riding by everyone kept us pretty much together throughout. Des managed to find a sneaky route across the A420 and a new road for me through Fresden, which I put a question mark next to as I couldn't find it on any map! Mind you, other than a signpost pointing to it you wouldn't know it existed, one manor house and a lodge appeared to be the entire village!! The short climb to the excellent tea-stop at Coleshill (another first for me) and sat outside in the sunshine enjoying ice creams, cakes and Mars bars (somebody had more than one Mars bar). And free tea and coffee refills! The climb up to Badbury Clump wasn't as long as I remembered, the 8% sign at the bottom is clearly a lie as the Garmins were showing 13% at the steepest point. Everyone did really well and climbed it strongly. The run back through the Coxwells, Fernham etc. had a helping tailwind and the pace was pretty high and we got back to Grove in good time, especially as it started raining just after I got home! Thanks Des for a very chilled and informative ride and to the other John T for sweeping. | ||
