---|
Leader:Jon Townsin |
Start Time:11:00 am |
Start Location:Chapel House, Weston RG20 8JA |
Description:This 65km, 2* ride has one significant climb over Coombe Gibbet promising fantastic views, with the remainder through gentle rolling countryside. The ride proceeds from Weston in the Lambourn valley via the villages of Kintbury and Inkpen, over Coombe Gibbet. After a lovely descent we reach tea / lunch stop at the excellent 'Tea Cosy' at Hurstbourne Tarrant. The return is a gentle climb back over to Ham, via Hungerford and Kintbury. The ride will be taken at steady 2* pace with time to stop and admire the views and will suit riders who want to challenge themselves with some manageable climbs. Directions to start: From Grove follow the A338 to Great Shefford. Just after The Swan public house take the left hand turn signposted Weston. Chapel House is the last house in the village on the RH side. Parking is available in the barn immediately adjacent and will be signed. To help with the tea stop, please let me know if you are planning to attend. |

Riders:Chris WaltersDavid Smith David Talboys Jon Townsin Karen Townsin Katherine Boyce Nick Portsmouth Nicole Pethybridge Richard Pethybridge Ron Cutler Ursula Hallam Riders = 11 Weather:Report:Eleven riders enjoyed good cycling conditions and were treated to some splendid Berkshire and Hampshire countryside along some roads that were new to many. The main climb at Coombe Gibbet was managed by all riders who were rewarded by the wide 'four counties' vista - well done all A swift descent over the back and into Coombe was replaced by a gentle roll toward lunch at Husrtsbourne Tarrant. Lunch at 'The Tea Cosy' was enjoyable, if a little slow, and the steady but manageable ascent of the escarpment allowed everyone to work off their luncheon ! The weather stayed fine until the last half kilometre or so (it may have been longer for some?!) and the sun began to shine again. Thanks to all for an enjoyable ride and for making my first ride leader's experience trouble free. | ||
