Martin was riding yet another “new” tandem. This time, a lovingly renovated Swallow tandem in mauve, the colour chosen by his stoker, daughter Marielle. We also welcomed Allen and his son Luke on their first 1* ride with us and Tim on his first Saturday. We stopped briefly in Denchworth and by the church in Charney Bassett, but it wasn’t an afternoon to linger. On our third stop, on the road to Garford, the hedgerows were brimming with berries, and we took the opportunity to pick a few juicy blackberries. And then a shower overtook us, but fortunately lasted only a few minutes Although our route was out and back from the Hanney-Southmoor Road to Garford, the views and perspectives on the return leg were surprisingly different. And it was nice to find the Hanney-Southmoor to finally open again with a lovely new surface. Soon we were in West Hanney and pulling up outside the Plough. We were able to bring our bikes through the side gate into the pub garden and enjoyed a relaxed drink in the refurbished bar in what is now a community owned pub. We enjoyed more good tarmac on the way back to Denchworth, however, it is alarming to see how badly the Denchworth-Grove road is breaking up already. Back in Grove just before 5 after a relaxed and sociable ride. Thanks everyone for your company. | ||
