Woodstock - Chipping Norton Special | 3* |
---|
Leader:Jon Townsin |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:Woodstock |
Description:This 70 km ride starts out from Woodstock and takes in a 'charm' of delightful villages (new collective noun) of Stonesfield and Charlbury before visiting Chipping Norton and the stones at Great Rollright, then a stop for well earned refreshments at Wyatts Tearooms. From there we will head south east to Great Tew and south via North, Middle and Steeple Aston and Tackley before returning the way we came back to Woodstock. With a bit of luck we'll hear some good music as we pass the Cornbury festival at Great Tew! The route is mainly along quiet roads with some climbing in the middle section but nothing out of the ordinary. The ride will be set at a comfortable 3* pace. Parking will be in the free car park by the Library on Hensington Road. If you are planning to come, please let me know on 07780 676051 in advance so I can alert the tearooms. |

Report:A really pleasant ride through the Cotswolds in light cloud and a bit of wind but very pleasingly no rain*! The roads were by and large quiet (except for the occasional idiot) and well maintained. Beautiful scenic views on all sides dotted with some absolutely beautiful villages. We rode at a comfortable (just for me!) touring pace of 20.58 km/h climbing over 800 metres in 68.9 kilometres which in my book is officially lumpy if not quite a queen stage! In fact the pace must have been too slow at one stage as karen picked up a slug on her down tube ! We visited the kingsmen and Kings' stone at Great Rollright before dodging a rain shower in Wyatt's tea rooms* - excellent timing ! No queues outside the Cornbury festival but a definite deep bass kept the legs turning. Thanks to Steve, John Nick and Karen for a very enjoyable ride which got us all back in time for Wimbledon; Silverstone; TdF and the Euro finals - what a good day ! | ||
