We decided that it would be more fun to make a real mystery ride and keep the destination and route secret until we arrived. We took advantage of the smooth new road surface from the Baulking Road past the Blowingstone pub, with a rest stop outside the pub a red herring, we then descended Fawler Hill to pass the pub in Uffington and after, what I thought, was another cunning move we headed away from our real destination before taking the second turning in to Woolstone and arriving at the White Horse pub from the West. Because of the numbers I had pre-booked a table and we were shown directly to a nice table in the garden. Initial drinks were a little slow in coming and there was some confusion over part of the drinks order, but once it arrived the beer was deemed to be good. The food arrived very quickly after ordering and again seemed to be enjoyed by all. Shortly before we left the pub a group of Farcycle riders arrived for what looked like a birthday celebration. Some discussion was had on the relative merits of Cycling UK membership, before 9 of us headed back to Grove. As Des was only 5 minutes away from home he decided to take the direct route. The ride back was a little quicker than the ride out, due to the drop in temperature and light levels, but it was still at a sociable pace. We all arrived safely back in Grove just before 10 PM. Thanks for everyone for coming along and to Ursula for sweeping. Hope to see you all on the next one. | ||
