Blowingstone - White Horse Audax | 3* |
---|
Leader:David Smith |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:Uffington Village Hall |
Description:This popular ride over a tough but spectacular route is excellently organised by Nick Dunton. Anyone who enters should have the route sheet/GPS trace with them so they can manage independently on the day, but I will be leading a 'ride within a ride' for those who prefer to keep together in the traditional club ride manner. Please do follow the link below and enter in advance if at all possible. Now in it's 4th year of running, this popular but tough 100km audax is organised by Cycling UK Wantage. Note the event is run under Audax UK regulations and there is a [small] fee payable if you want to ride. While we will accept entries on the day, it would help enormously if you can pre-enter via the Audax UK website [see link below], and pay via PayPal. That way, you also receive the route description ahead of time and can prepare, and we can ensure there is enough cake at the finish for everyone! A bout of sickness meant a few club regulars couldn’t make it – get well soon, guys. Having said our goodbyes to the 4* peloton at the start, we settled into a comfortable pace up Blowingstone and Spring, through the delightful Savernake section to climb again at Clench Common. Arriving at Marlborough in good time for lunch, the café looked busy so we found an oasis of calm in the church café instead. The afternoon brought a few more hills and views as we yo-yoed with several other groups along the way. Finally, we enjoyed some faster sections as we turned away from the wind. As we appreciated the homeward approach with the views of the white horse, we toyed briefly with the idea of including Dragon Hill, but tea and cake beckoned. I understand it’ll be part of the route next year - look forward to that! Thanks to Nick for organising and his crew for manning the controls, catering and keeping the tea flowing. | ||
