Tuesday 1* Evening Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Karen Townsin |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.Optional stop at The Fox in Denchworth at the end of the ride. This is a bridging ride at the upper level of the range to allow riders to gauge their pace and gain confidence to step up to the next star level. So, with that in mind, tonight we'll tackle Holborn Hill. We ride from Grove to Wantage and after a very short section on the B4507, we'll quickly turn off onto quieter lanes that take us through Letcombe Regis and Letcombe Bassett. We'll then climb the hill, steep but quite short, before a rewarding descent into Childrey. Then it's back along familiar roads with a very short stretch on the A417, through Goosey to Denchworth and the pub for those who'd like to stop. |

Riders:Karen TownsinMandy Wassell Martyn Wigmore Naomi Merritt Paul Penfold Steve Boreham Riders = 6 Weather:![]() ![]() Report:Since there seemed to be a fair amount of faffing going on with the other groups, we decided to sneak away from OMH first and so were subsequently over-taken by the 3* and later the somewhat bemused 2* group wondering how we'd managed to get so far!Once we were onto the Letcombes road, the traffic disappeared and we enjoyed a lovely quiet ride through the villages. There was some trepidation around Holborn Hill, but actually everyone managed it really well and then of course we were rewarded with the downhill into Childrey. A stop by the pond was required to fix Mandy's front mud guard with the ever versatile cable tie and we were soon on our way again with another stop in Goosey to enjoy the wonderful evening light. Welcome to Martyn on his first club ride since the Betjeman and to Andrew, Paul's son, visiting from Devon. Six of the seven stopped at the Fox, entertained by the Morris/ 17th Century traditional dancers. A perfectly normal Summer evening in Denchworth! Thanks everyone for a lovely ride and don't forget that it is the second phase of the bridging rides next week, so if you fancy a slightly longer and slightly faster ride, why not join the 2* group? | ||
