Barbury Bash | 3* |
---|
Leader:Jon Townsin |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:Milton, Abingdon |
Description:This is an Audax event run by our neighbouring club Didcot Phoenix. Entry to the ride can be made following this link:http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/16-493/ 110km cycling event starting from Milton, Abingdon. Controls at Barbury Castle, plus 2 information controls. A scenic ride to the iron-age fort of Barbury Castle. Enquiries: audax@didcotphoenix.co.uk One personned control and 2 info controls; light snacks at finish. To be brutally honest, you can't see Barbury Castle from the route as it is (a) a lump and (b) some distance from modern roads. Don't let this stop you entering and enjoying a cracking route. |

Riders:David SmithJon Townsin Karen Townsin Richard Pethybridge Robin Tucker Ursula Hallam Riders = 6 Weather:Report:Well, my legs are certainly tired this morning following a decidedly lumpy 105k route. I can't begin to imagine how David's legs are after the 226k epic!Robin joined us for the first half of the ride before heading back to enjoy his birthday Sunday celebrations. The first half of the route was direct and fairly fast along the A417 and then 'spring line' towards Barbury and the first real climb of the day at 44k. After the short but steep visit we headed back down for the next out of Ogbourn St George. At 17%, not the steepest, but a fairly long drag up the escarpment nonetheless. This was followed by various ups and downs past Aldbourne and Eastbury to Great Shefford where I had to call time and force my fellow riders to stop for a cup of tea/coffee at The Swan. Suitably refreshed we headed off for the final 20k past West Ilsley and a hairy half mile up the A34. Ursula, who we had left to manage her own pace was waiting for us at the end with the kettle on! What more could you want for a Sunday spin! | ||
