Description:This week a ride to Childrey with its village pond overlooked by old cottages. We'll cycle out through Stockham and East Challow, following the track across to Childrey with great views across the Vale and up to the Downs. We'll return to Grove via Challow station and Goosey. There will be two short sections along the A417. A round trip of about 10 miles.Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Riders:Diana WhidborneGareth Smith Jane Bruffell Lorna Swanton Martyn Wigmore Sheena Arnold Steve Boreham Steve Swanton Riders = 8 Weather: Report:What seemed like being a chilly evening, as we rode to the start, turned into a brighter one, the sun emerging just as we set off and staying with us through to sunset. This week's ride was a step up in exertion levels from the first two rides of the season, being longer with some climbing and an off-road track. But the reward for our efforts in the first half was the lovely long descent from Childrey to the A417. And even the cars on the A417 seemed more patient than usual, waiting for us all to turn into Goosey on our way home.As usual, there were a number of stops along the way to rest, enjoy the views, the light and the scenery around us, and to have a good chat. We arrived in Childrey at the same time as the 2* group, who must have sprinted up Silver Lane just before we crossed it on the bridleway. We got back to Grove just on sunset closely followed by the 2* group. Lovely to see Jane out with us again and Sheena on her first ride of the year too. Thanks to Gareth for sweeping duties on a most relaxing ride. | ||
