Betjeman Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:2:00 pm |
Start Location:Betjeman Park, Wantage |
Description:In partnership with the Trustees of the Betjeman Park in Wantage, this is a gentle beginners ride from the Park to Uffington, where John Betjeman lived during the 1930's.We leave the Park and cut across to Grove past the famous Plane on a Stick, then Denchworth, Goosey and Baulking to the parish church in Uffington, where delicious tea and cakes await. 10 miles and no hills - seriously, anyone can do this! The average speed will be around 10-11 mph. If you are up for it, we will guide riders back to Grove/Wantage by the same route in reverse as well. |

Mind you, the whole area was uncannily quiet so it might just have had something to do with a certain football match!!We set off with six regular riders (Brian also joined us en route) and two visitors - so an especially big thanks to Heather and Julia for joining us! Glorious conditions and quiet roads made it a very pleasant ride. We took the road less travelled to downtown Baulking before enjoying the usual excellent hospitality, music, tea and cakes from the good people of Uffington church. Everyone was up for the return journey so (as usual) it became a 20 mile adventure back to Grove and Wantage. | ||
