---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:WMP |
Description:2* Sunday Shortie - 2 hours at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). May include some hills. This is a pre-bookable ride only. To book your place please text the ride leader no sooner than the Tuesday before the ride.If you'd like to take part in the World's Biggest Bike Ride with a group, why not join us for a shortie morning ride. Starting from Wantage Market Place, we'll follow a clockwise loop round the Vale to Steventon returning through the Springline villages at a relaxed 2* pace. Plan is to use a short stretch of the Icknield Greenway between East Hendred and Ginge and the track from Lockinge into Wantage. About 20 miles with a few modest climbs. Expect to be back in Wantage by about 12. Finishing with an optional coffee stop in town at the Bay Tree or an alternative cafe. |

With 2 late additions we were 8, but everyone was happy to ride as a single group. The Wantage start made for a different route to Denchworth, out via the A417, although the road was surprisingly busy for a Sunday morning. It was a relief to turn off onto Circourt Road and the quieter lanes. The lanes were delightfully green and white, but there was a lot of pollen in the air from the cow parsley in the verges, the hawthorn in full flower and the oil seed rape making for a few runny noses! Despite a headwind as we rode eastwards we enjoyed a relaxed 2* pace across Cow Common to Steventon. Up Steventon Hill and along Featherbed Lane to the tranquility of East Hendred and as we climbed up towards the Icknield Greenway the sun finally broke through. The last few miles from Ginge through Lockinge and back to Wantage were delightful with the sun and wind on our backs and the pretty scenery to enjoy. We arrived back in the Market Place at 12 and all stayed for a coffee, snack and natter at Marmalade, sitting in the sunshine. Thanks all for your company for an enjoyable morning.
