Description:As a courtesy to the ride leader, we ask that you pre-book for this ride.A half day touring ride (approx 71k) to the Three Trees Farm Shop at Chiseldon (for brunch / morning coffee/ early lunch). Stop almost exactly half way round - but after way more than half of the climbing. Riding at 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders. Combined with the strong winds (headwinds and crosswinds) and the hills this made it quite a challenging morning. It did cross my mind to abandon on the way down to Lambourn when at one stage we had driving hail into our faces, but knowing the forecast was improving we kept going. We arrived at lunch damp, somewhat chilly and (speaking for myself at least), in need of a rest. We had to wait about 10 minutes at Three Trees Cafe for a table, (note to myself and other ride leaders thinking of using the cafe again they do take reservations), but they were very well organised and the food was yummy. The sun came out in the afternoon to warm us slightly and some of us were actually able to shed a few items of clothing. Although the wind had dropped in intensity when we had a tailwind it still made some of the westerly sections a dream! Well done to new cyclist Elliott who did brilliantly on his first hilly ride. Thanks to a great group. | ||
