Report:This could be said to be the first ride we've started from Charlton as it was outside the church that I met up with Sarah and Mila.It was indeed a beautiful day to enjoy the Autumn colours as we followed the Springline between Wantage and the Harwell campus. Out on the cyclepaths through Kingsgrove, we then kept to the roads as far as Ginge, taking a breather at the top of each hill to enjoy the views. This included a cunning detour via the Lockinge estate road to avoid flooding on the road past Betterton House. There was a lovely panorama to enjoy on the gentle climb up to Betterton on the narrow road that we normally descend. From Ginge we followed NCN544 via the farm track and then Icknield Way into the Harwell campus. The latter track seemed particularly stony, perhaps due to all the recent heavy rain washing out some of the finer material? The Lightbox cafe was pretty quiet and we enjoyed a wide-ranging conversation over our drinks and snacks. Then we partially retraced our steps to East Hendred and continued via the Icknield Greenway, crossing the bridge of lesser doom over Ginge Brook and back into Wantage through Ardington. A thoroughly enjoyable and sociable ride. Thanks to Mila and Sarah for your good company. | ||
