Leader:Henk Altmann (deceased) |
Start Time:1:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Regular Saturday afternoon ride of 60-70km with tea stop. This will be a flatish 62km ride to the east of Wantage. From Grove the route is Denchworth, West and East Hanney, Steventon, Drayton, Sutton Courtenay and Appleford. After a further 2 kms, a right turn will pick up the cycle track through Didcot and under the power lines to the B4016. Thereafter we shall turn north and pick up the road to North Moreton, South Moreton, Aston Upthorpe, East Hagbourne and Coscote. Here is a decision point. The flat course will turn right to Didcot and Harwell village for tea at either Q Cafe or Bytes Cafe in Milton Heights. The more energetic riders can choose the hill to Chilton and continue on to the Cafe, passing Rutherford laboratory and Rowstock corner. After tea we shall cycle through West and East Hendred, Ginge, Lockinge, Wantage and back to Grove. |

Riders:Chris WaltersDean Douglas Des Higgs Henk Altmann (deceased) Nick Dunton Philip Thornton-Evison Robert Shaw Riders = 7 Report:A stiff westerly breeze decided a clockwise rotation from Grove to follow the route described in the Ride description. A steady 13 mph speed and relatively light traffic allowed the group to remain together over the whole ride. The ride leader managed to fall off his bike when the map holder became unclipped but no damage was sustained. The easy option of returning through Didcot and avoiding Chilton hill was chosen. Tea at Byte Cafe in Milton Heights did not materialize since they appear to be uncontactable and Q Cafe substituted. The ride was completed through The Orchards and Hendreds to Grove via Wantage. Total distance about 64 km. Weather looked threatening at the beginning but remained dry. | ||
