Although our normal calendar of bike rides is suspended, we have been noticing that lots of people in the area are cycling, whether for work, shopping or exercise. This is actually really nice to see and perhaps a little silver lining in the present crisis. Although we can’t invite people on club rides for the time being, we are very keen to help out where we can with advice and encouragement for those new to cycling or those coming back to it after a time away.
In terms of general advice, we are a local member group of the national organisation, Cycling UK, and they do have some good resources on their website. Here are a couple of good ones to get started:
Advice for beginners cyclists found: here
Advice for key workers (including free membership of Cycling UK) found: here
More locally, we have a membership of friendly and experienced cyclists who are ready and willing to help in whatever ways might be useful. Maybe it’s advice on bike maintenance (“how do I pump this tyre up?”, “what do I use to lubricate the chain?”, etc) or some tips on the best quiet routes for getting some fresh air with the children. We are keen to help, so please get in touch – initially with our Chairman, John Tranter, details below:
