Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Roger Postbeschild |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:***UPPER BRIDGING RIDE***This is the first of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range. We will go out via the Letcombes and climb Holborn Hill, after which, there will be time to catch your breath. There are rewards, some nice downhills! Please bring lights. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Report:Well, after all the wind and rain of late, the weather was at least dry for the ride. 4 Thursday group riders and Steve braved the bridging ride up Holborne Hill and we achieved just around bottom two star pace, including said hill.Mission accomplished! | ||

Tuesday Evening 2* Ride | 2* |

Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. ***UPPER BRIDGING RIDE***This is the first of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range. Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. We will take this bridging challenge based on a longer distance and a slightly higher speed, rather than lots of hills. So we have a west Vale loop, out via Goosey to Uffington, then across to Fernham followed by the long straight road to Shellingford and Hatford. We finish off through Charney Bassett and back through Denchworth. 21 flat miles - should be fun! |

Report:A strange week of grey skies and lots of rain meant a sense of impending doom as we gathered in slight drizzle. As always on these occasions, you wonder why anyone would come out - but they always do!In the event, we got a bit lucky and managed to get round without the weather closing in and we stayed dry, although it was pretty cold. Some had dug out their winter clothing, some had stuck with shorts - "it's the summer, after all!" Des had to dash back to the car to rescue his car keys (or some such dubious excuse) and then he mysteriously reappeared in Uffington buying chips. Still not sure how that worked... The 3* group decided to do the same route in reverse which as a fun idea as we crossed over exactly on half way. Thanks to all for braving the conditions! | ||

Riders:Chris BaileyDavid Talboys James Bosley Jane John Jon Townsin Karen Froud Katherine Boyce Sharon Bedford Riders = 8 Weather:Report:Another evening with a very unpromising forecast! After a very wet few days it was decided that a ride up White Horse Hill wasn't the best idea due to all the rubble that would potentially be on the descent road.We therefore had a flatter ride through the vale, borrowing John Tranter's 2* route but the opposite way round to avoid congestion. With a small group of 8 riders we had a very pleasant 'I'm glad I came out' ride, and we didn't get wet! I may have forgotten to press 'start' on my Garmin so didn't manage to record the ride...Doh! Thanks to Jon for sweeping. | ||
