2* Wallingford Special | 2* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:It's a while since we've been to Wallingford on a 2* outing, so no better excuse than an otherwise free day in the ride calendar on a a Bank Holiday Sunday! We'll take a wiggly route across the vale to Wallingford making use of quiet roads and familiar cycle tracks as far as Harwell campus, then the metalled railway path to the edge of Didcot and on through the pretty villages of East Hagboume, Aston Tirrold and South Moreton. Refreshment stop in Wallingford (probably at the Boathouse by the river Thames). We'll leave Wallingford following NCN5 out to the Wittenhams then on through Appleford, cross the Thames at Culham and continue into Abingdon. There will be the option of a second refreshment stop at Annie's at the Boathouse, as we loop through the town passing along the river to Peep-O'Day Lane (NCN5). We'll then use the delightful old cobbled causeway path along Ginge Brook from Milton to Steventon, cross Cow Common to the Hanneys and return to Grove on the Farm track from West Hanney. A round trip of about 44 miles with about 10 miles of non-technical off-road tracks and cycle paths half-of which are metalled. The route is relatively flat and we'll take it at a relaxed 2* pace of 11-13mph (18-20km/h ). Please let me know by text if you are intending to come. |
