Saturday afternoon ride from Grove | 2* |
---|
Leader:Karen Townsin |
Start Time:1:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Monthly 45-55km (30-40 miles) afternoon ride, with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Might be a struggle for new or irregular riders in winter months. The plan is to ascend the Ridgeway via Court Hill, then explore the downland villages of Brightwalton and Leckhampstead before stopping for tea at the excellent Saddleback Farm Shop. It's then just a whizz down Chain Hill and back to Grove. This route is undulating throughout, that is the nature and beauty of the downs, so a chance to try out some hills at a comfortable pace with plenty of opportunties to stop and admire the view from the top. Approx. 43 km (26.5 miles) |

It was great to be out and obviously lots of others thought so too. A dauntingly large group for my first Saturday lead, however, despite the numbers and the terrain, we managed to stay together pretty well. After the climb out of Letcombe we took a lovely meander through some of my favourite West Berkshire villages. Everyone coped well with the undulations and seemed to enjoy the quiet lanes. The only slight downside was a painfully slow stop at Saddleback farm shop. It was great to have Mavis, Lou and Brian join us on route and, welcome back to Alan; hope to see you on another ride soon. Thanks everyone for a most enjoyable ride. | ||
