Tuesday Evening 3* Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:John Talbot |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. Enough daylight to attempt my Boar's Hill route. It's a long one for 3* at 49km but it's well worth it on a bright summer evening. Pretty flat other than the climb to Boar's Hill to look down on the dreaming spires of Oxford.Quiet lanes throughout apart from a short stretch of the A415 and A338 between Marcham and Garford where we normally split into smaller groups. |

We seemed to be heading towards the blackest clouds though and the roads began to be damp from Appleton.Things got really interesting near Eaton and Besselsleigh though. What we thought was foam on the road turned out to be a drift of hail a few inches deep! The road was also flooded in several places but we had David "depth gauge" Smith with us so we knew we were OK We were just extremely grateful that we hadn't met it when it was falling out of the sky The roads were wet and a little rain was falling towards Wootton and up to Boars Hill. Still Oxford was visible from the top although the view is dominated by cranes at the Westgate development. We were treated to a rainbow near Garford and the roads dried out again. By the time we got back to Grove we had mostly dried out again as well A good strong group who kept a decent pace throughout. Many thanks to David T for sweeping | ||
