Tuesday Evening 3* Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:Nick Dunton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. A scenic trip to Didcot and the NR5 cycle-path behind the power station. This is a wildlife haven and alive with rabbits and red kites [good opportunity to practise bunny-hopping!]. Route is fully surfaced and fine for road bikes. Fairly flat route of 46.7km, so aiming for a reasonable pace. Note: in places this route uses busier roads than the majority of our rides, so best to avoid if you dislike riding in traffic.Lains Barn Lane, East Lockinge, Ginge, Hendreds, Featherbed Lane, Harwell, Didcot, NR5, Sutton Courtenay, Drayton, Steventon, Hanneys, Denchworth, Grove |

The usual traffic problems slowed the start out of Grove. We took the cycle path between Ginge and East Hendred – sorry to those on light tyres. The road between Harwell and Didcot is closed; we managed to squeeze past the obstruction on the pavement and then had a gloriously quite approach to Didcot. Chris had a split tyre and puncture just before this and elected to drop off the back with Phil in attendance [catching us just after the finish]. The Power Station cyclepath was lined with flowering teasels but few rabbits. We upped the pace over the flat final sections, despite a headwind, to get back before the gloom really set in. Thanks to Andy and Dave for sweeping duties. | ||
