2* Saturday All Day Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Nicole Pethybridge |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:This will be a little unusual as an ALL DAY 2* ride. I ran it last year as 2* riders do like to venture a little further afield but at a steady pace.NOTE Start time -9.00 am We will repeat the ride from last year. This takes us from Grove to Uffington, through Shrivenham and out to Highworth where where the old Bakery is under new management and are expecting us. From there we will skirt north of Swindon and head over to the Cotswold Water Park around Ashton Keynes After another stop if we wish at the South Cerney we turn and head back towards Kempsford just south of Fairford Air Base. From here to up the hill into Faringdon and then just the familiar route home. We have opportunities to stop at Highworth and South Cerney and again in Lechlade or Faringdon if we need it. A long ride - 63 miles but taken at a leisurely pace so that all can enjoy it. I would expect us to be back between 4 and 5 depending on how many stops we take. |

Arm warmers and jackets were donned and we headed out towards Uffington in the usual fashion. Through Shrivenham we headed further afield and made quick work of the hill up to Highworth. The Old Bakery is under new management and was very cycling friendly. They had reserved tables for us after my call earlier in the week and we tucked into some very good cakes.Katherine left us here to head back for some afternoon commitments and the remainder rode towards the new housing development of North Swindon. Once through here we were in the Costwold water park and some lovely flat and easy riding. The sun had come out and before long we were at our lunch stop and again quick service and some tasty lunches were eaten, now outside in the warm. Steve left us here to find the source of the Thames and we cycled towards Fairford. Susie gave us some demonstrations of her magic bike and also a route to avoid Faringdon, as afternoon tea wasn't required. Back in really good time after a steady ride it was a lovely way to spend the day. Thanks to the great group that all kept together. | ||
