2* Saturday Half Day Ride 2*
Jon Townsin
Start Time:
9:30 am
Start Location:
Half day ride (45-55km / 30-40 miles), with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Might be a struggle for new or irregular riders in winter months.

Given that the predicted wind will be blowing south to north, we'll head east to west so we don't have to cycle into the wind on the return!
So; a ride heading west across the vale toward Shrivenham via Hatford and Shellingford and then back via the Ashbury cafe, Uffington and Denchworth. A flat(ish)ride of 55km should see us back to Grove around 1.30 - 2.00.
Well, 21 riders may be a club record for a January 2* but if it isnâᅵᅵt someone will let me know I have no doubtðᅵ£!

Either way it was a fantastic turnout for what was a surprisingly chilly ride. We divided into two groups to make it safely manageable. Thanks go to John T for leading the second group. Particularly impressive was the cunning device used to make sure the two groups didnâᅵᅵt bunch up - not actually loading the right ride and improvising where necessary! Quality :).

All went well however and the tea stop at Ashbury tea rooms was particularly welcome. Iâᅵᅵd let them know weâᅵᅵd be coming (about 10 of us!) and they took the increased numbers in their stride. Several people remarked on the improvements made over the years - with special accolades going to the almond croissants ðᅵ¥ᅵ!

The return leg took us down Knighton hill where we saw a lovely stand of fallow deer and safely back to Grove. Group two arrived back safe and sound to round off a very enjoyable day. Thanks go to Eddie for sweeping the first group (John can you let me know who swept for you?) and finally thanks to Susie Turnbull for originally mapping the ride back in June last year ðᅵᅵᅵðᅵᅵ».
Thanks to everyone for a great ride.
55.00 km (34.18 mi)
