Leader:Jo Little |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:The Beacon car park |
Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Half day ride (60-70km / 38-45 miles), with a tea stop, riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph).We'll head out for Littleworth and Radcot before looping back round to the cafe stop at Coleshill (25 miles), then return to Wantage via Shrivenham and Fawler Hill. |
||
Report:We had a dry and mostly sunny day for the ride but the headwind stayed with us for three quarters of a circular route, turning this into a much tougher ride than planned. Coleshill cafe was as good as ever and the route back was a bit easier when we had a tailwind. Thanks to Barry for more climbing tips, to Roger who led whenever the headwind was very tough and to everyone for being a good group to cycle with.

Report:This was a ride of two halves & multiple surfaces.The first part of the ride consisted of riding along the Wilts & Berks Canal, Grove to West Challow, which made for a lovely ride. We then joined the Ridgeway at Sparsholt Firs, following the Ridgeway via Old Street out as far as Scutchamer Knob.This is where we left the Ridgeway, descending to our refreshment stop at Chilton Garden Centre. The service, food & drinks were excellent. The garden centre is now owned by British Garden Centres, & has been completely refurbished along with a brand new restaurant. Once we were refreshed, we then followed the Icknield Way back home via Lockinge to Wantage. The Ridgeway wasn’t too busy though it was nice to see cyclists & walkers of all ages enjoying this beautiful & ancient trail, along with some spectacular views. A lovely chilled ride with nice company & incident free.
