| 2* Saturday Half Day Ride - Oxford Special | 2* |
|---|
Leader:John Tranter |
Start Time:9:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Note the 9.00 start to minimise the traffic. Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Half day ride (45-55km / 30-40 miles), with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). On of my favourite routes involving fascinating and cunning ways to get into the centre of Oxford almost entirely on off-road tracks. We head across the Vale for Appleton and Cumnor, down Cumnor Hill before hitting the back roads and trails to get us to the river by Osney. A lovely river crossing before we hit the centre of town. Coffee stop with the opportunity to see inside my old College, St Cross. Then we head north out of town on the canal towpath to Wolvercote, loop around Port Meadow and head for home. 41 miles / 65km at a nice steady 2* pace. |

Report:It was really good to be back leading after a long gap - thanks to the brave few who came out to join me on a chilly day. Actually it worked out well - not quite icy and although the easterly wind was a challenge on the way over to Oxford, it gave us some nice assistance on the way back. I was pleased with a sudden brainwave to try the Independent Cafe on St Aldates as a coffee stop - warm and with great coffee and breakfast rolls. All the usual fun of the run through town and out again along the Oxford Canal to Wolvercote and around Port Meadow to Cumnor and home. | ||
