Tuesday Evening 4* STREATLEY SPECIAL | 4* |
---|
Leader:Andy Cowan |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours ride at a riding pace in excess of 24km/h (15mph). May be hilly. This is at the top of our Evening Ride range at 55k and 600m climbing but there are plenty of fast stretches so we should just about make it in 2 hours, but please schedule in an extra 10 mins just in case. We've had a great turnout recently and the last thing I want to do is put anyone off so the emphasis will remain on the group so let's make it a record 4* turnout. Up Lains Barn, Rowstock, Harwell, Blewbury, Streatey, up Streatley Hill, Compton, the Ilsleys, Farnborough down Chain, wait for me and home. Pump your tyres up, two bottles and a rear light please. |

Riders:Andy CowanAndy Pixton Frank Schroer John Quinn Ken Pelton Nick Fisher Nick Stokell Paul Jarvis Riders = 8 Weather:Report:I don t really know what to make of that one but I m sure the other Leaders will tell you some rides can be a bit stressful for the poor ol` leader and this for me was one.The issue became the climbs with about a dozen stiff ones, with Streatley half way through, our range in climbing ability began to show particularly with the need to make the most of the wind and crack on when we had the chance, so handling the splits was a bit distracting, oh and did I mention one frankly unroadworthy bike! Ken you`re going to have to sort that out I m afraid. Having said that, the will was there, everybody gave it their all, with especially spirited efforts from John who found life easier without a huge rucksack this week and Andy who must be the 3*KOM, surely!!It was a tough route and we have a new rider who slotted in really well. but be warned, he skipped up Streatley and volunteered to go back down again, so welcome Nick. We had the pleasure of the company of Mr Jarvis for a few miles who met us past Harwell but after a tough one on Sunday and joining at a point of decent pace decided a pootle was probably in order. Av 16.8 Thanks everyone for coming , it was good to do Streatley on a Tuesday night if perhaps a little over ambitious, but maybe not? | ||
