Saturday Afternoon Ride from Grove | 2* |
---|
Leader:Jon Townsin |
Start Time:1:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Monthly 45-55km (30-40 miles) afternoon ride, with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Might be a struggle for new or irregular riders in winter months. This 2 star ride starts out through Denchworth and works its way to Childrey before tackling Hackpen Hill, but from the Sparsholt side for a change. From there, we descend into Lambourn and along the valley road into Great Shefford and left for a short stretch of A338. Then it's up Buckham Hill and through Leckhampstead and Brightwalton before a well earned stop for refreshments at Saddleback Farm shop. Once replete, we head back down Chain Hill and home via Wantage. All in all a ride of about 54 kilometres with two manageable climbs - which we will take at a steady pace and regroup at the top. Please let me know by text on 07780 676051 if you plan to come so I can alert the farm shop regarding numbers. |

We had a bumper turnout of 22 riders which meant we effectively ran two rides. Thanks to Karen for leading the second ride and to Richard, Nicole, Nick and John for sharing the sweeping duties. We welcomed three new riders to the club; Terry, Jenny and Dean and also welcomed two CTC Oxfordshire club members; Gill and Marion (although Gill is a returner!). Congratulations to everyone for tackling the two not insignificant hills and the views and coffee stop provided a nice reward for the effort. All in all a good, big day out | ||
