Tuesday Evening 4* Ride | 4* |
---|
Leader:Phil Ward |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Weekly 1.5-2 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly. Updated route 7th JulyA challenging 52km loop to the South. The Aim/Challenge - stretch your legs on the hills, but "gruppo compatto" in between. Aiming to be done inside 2 hours. The Route - starting off up Manor Hill, regrouping just over the top at the Ridgeway. Then Southwards, dropping on the A338 but deviating to take in climbs to Woolley Farm and Buckham Hill (thus avoiding pothole tomfoolery around Gt. Shefford) to roll South of the M4, turning at Boxford onto the Winterbourne Road. Picking up the B4494 we will deviate immediately via Chieveley & into the lanes to Peasemore & rejoin B4494 at Lilley (CARE: fast gravelly descent to Give Way). A final teaser up to Farnborough should empty the legs before a well deserved final plunge into Wantage. |

Riders:Andy CowanAndy Pixton Jason Jones Nick Fisher Nick Stokell Paul Jarvis Phil Ward Riders = 7 Weather:Report:Seven reported in for the evening's entertainment, eschewing the temptation of watching Le Tour Highlights in favour of some good honest exercise. Pleased to have teased Andy P out for a 4* ride at last, we started with a haul up Manor Hill and set about the following series of ramps interspersed with more gentle downslopes. Despite some ferocious climbing from Nick F, accompanied (briefly) at times by Andy C and Jason, great efforts were made at keeping a functional group over some pretty undulating terrain, showing it can be done, thanks all for a stress free ride. I should admit to having such a pleasant time of it that I missed a turn (just) but all was rectified quickly much to the amusement of some Chieveley residents. Having skirted around some pretty forbidding clouds and been able to role Southwards in broken sunshine, we finally caught up with the rain as we headed back into the Vale down Chain Hill. Evidently it could have been a lot worse judging from other groups' reports, so we can consider ourselves fortunate & smugly return to the sofa to catch up on the Le Tour with clear consciences, if not clean bikes. Thanks all, see you next week. | ||
