Thursday Family Ride to Lockinge and Ardington | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:10:00 am |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:This week, we have planned a route out to Lockinge and Ardington making use of cycle paths and some quieter back streets in Grove and Wantage, parts of the Sustrans route 544 and the new Icknield Greenway. There is the opportunity to see an old fire engine, a famous racehorse and even spot a rhinoceros. The full route (15 km) includes an uphill section to Betterton and a nice long descent to Ardington. But we have lots of flexibility to shorten and vary the route depending on the age and experience of younger riders by splitting into smaller groups. It is also possible to pick up family riders in Charlton by prior arrangement. We'll stop for refreshments along the way so please bring a snack and a drink. We'll be running a weekly series of family-friendly social rides on Thursday mornings over the Summer holidays. Designed for young riders with a parent/guardian, we'll cover 15-24km (9-15 miles) at a riding pace of 13-16km (8-10 miles) per hour following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We'll stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. There will be experienced riders on hand to guide, assist and encourage. Please book your places by texting the ride leader no earlier than the Friday before. |

Report:We set off at a fast pace so we could get to the cake before the 1* ride ate it all! (But as it turned out it was Roger and Susie's dog that polished it off when we all went inside to admire the new house) What a wonderful house and setting - well done Susie and Roger! We rode back with the 1* group to Wantage where we went our separate ways. Most of my 2* group went up to Parsons in Grove for another coffee and cake. A good ride with good company. Thank you Des | ||
