2* Saturday Afternoon Ride | 2* |
---|
Leader:Nick Dunton |
Start Time:1:00 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:At 76.5km, this is a long two-star ride for a Saturday afternoon but is relatively flat (only 381m of climbing) and has only one significant climb (Hagbourne Hill). And, hey, it's almost the longest day, so what else do you want to be doing? It will be run at the usual two-star speed (18-20km/h) and we will re-group at the top of all hills. No one will be left behind! We should be back in Grove by 6.00 p.m. at the latest. There will be a refreshment stop in Abingdon. Note this route uses the cycle path from Harwell Campus to Ginge which is bumpy in places, and can get muddy after rain, but is passable on all but the most delicate road bikes. |

Riders:Barry StantonEddie Little Jane John Jo Little Karl Blake Mike Bailey Nick Dunton Nigel Hughes Phillip Folkes Riders = 9 Weather:Report:A very mellow outing. Welcome to Nigel Hughes on his first CUK ride. Weather was fine throughout, despite the occasional threat of rain. There was a stiff headwind on the return leg which slowed progress a little. Drinks were taken in Abingdon where there was an outside spin-class in the market square rising money for a breast cancer charity: very odd to stop cycling and sit watching other people cycling but getting nowhere. We did a slight detour, taking the cycle path to Wittenham and doubling back on the B4106 to avoid the dangerous right-hand turn on to Sires Hill. Back to Grove around 5.30. My Garmin said average speed 21.0 k.p.h. Just over two-star pace. Chapeau to Barry and Karl, for whom this was just a pipe-opener for the 100 miles tomorrow. | ||
