Climbing almost inevitable.A return to Coombe Gibbet and beyond !!! We'll head from Wantage up Chain Hill and then descend down the Berkshire Downs to The River Lambourn at Boxford. Then up and over the B4000 and A4 to the flatlands of the River Kennet and the adjacent Kennet and Avon canal. Then it's up one of Berkshire's favourite climbs - Coombe Gibbet. After recovering with (hopefully) some excellent views we'll swoop down the other side of the escarpment and on towards The Tea Cosy at Hurstbourne Tarrant. From there, we'll head back over to Berkshire via Vernham Dene and Hungerford and from there, the familiar haunts of Lambourn and The Letcombes. A big day out at @ 100km and + 1000m climbing. |

Riders:Barry StantonEddie Little James Bosley John Groves John Tranter Jon Townsin LeeAnn Norris Paul Bentley Riders = 8 Weather:Report:A big day out !Eight riders braved the initial rain to head out of Wantage after John (G) decided to swap his slippers for his riding shoes! Up over Chain Hill for the days first climb and then down to Boxford and up to the top of Coombe Gibbett for great views over Berkshire Downs and the Ridgeway in the distance. Sadly Barry couldn't resist the call of the Crown and Garter after three successive blowouts on his front wheel (only one whilst riding)- bad luck Barry ! The seven remaining riders swept down into Hampshire on a glorious descent toward the lunch stop at the Tea Cosy. Cakes before sandwich? Thats how they do it down in Hampshire ! Then the long drag back up to Wayfarers Walk before another swoop down to Ham. A couple more climbs and we were back in the familiar surroundings of Lambourn and the final climb of the day - where I blew up! All in all a big day our with sunshine, clouds and quite a lot of headwind! Thanks to all for a really enjoyable ride!!! | ||
