It didnt rain on Warners ride!!!!!Thirteen of us set out from Wantage through Denchworth, Lyford, Longworth, Appleton, Cumnor Hill to Botley. We then took the cycle path along side the A34 (noisy but safe) through to Wytham cocked a snoop at the Trout, and rode on to the Red Lion at Wolvercote. Lunch was an excellent value carvery for most, with options for the Veggies and more exploritory eaters. Onward after food to the Oxford Canal path and into town. Some of you will remember this ride from a few years back when it snowed, hailed and generally chucked it down for the entire day. I omitted the off road section from Boars Hill to Cumnor Hill and also, due to the previous nights rain the trip across Port Meadow. Into the mellee of Oxford by the railway station off the Botley road and back to the peace of the Thames path at Osney Lock. First spanner in the works as a length of the path was closed, short detour around the offending college then back on the path to Folly Bridge. After here came the second spanner. The path is in need of repair, and avoiding the large water filled holes while circumnavigating mountain bike mounted rowing coaches is entertaining to say the least. As an aside is "Pull harder you lazy b******s in anyone sports motivation manual?" Carried on to Donnington bride then followed the cycle paths to Kennington. Turning right after the Penny Farthing we took a cross country route through Sunningwell, Cothill, Frilford, Fyfield and Hanney. Des seemed keen to take the bridleway to Grove but I declined to save Derek the trouble of lynching me for burying his normally immaculate machine in any more mud. People had been peeling off the ride since lunch, but seven of us made it k to Wantage museum for tea and medals, I may have thrown my weather jinx. | ||
