---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.Gentle figure of 8 - via Denchworth to Goosey, then across to West Hanney, before curling up and round to Lyford, Denchworth and back to Grove. Around 12 miles. |

Riders:Alvaro ReyCath Hopkins Jason Hopkins Lewis Hopkins Owen Hopkins Steve Boreham Riders = 6 Weather:Report:Glorious evening!Only surprise - that not more riders turned up! A select but very grand little gathering if six of us - consisting of the Hopkins family, plus two "Honorary Hopkins" for the evening. As it was warm, took it gently fitting the ride billing - naturally. Regular stops for breathers including outside the pub in Denchworth (tempting?). Then Goosey Green to admire the lovely setting of the village. Next stop - outside the church in Lyford. Seemed to be a few cars moving around - first just thought it was people arriving home etc - but no - it was a treasure hunt! If they were searching for cyclists they found us... Group photo kindly taken by Jason (to be added!) of the motley crew outside Lyford Church, before we escaped the rush hour traffic, moving round via the Southmoor Road to West Hanney, and back to Grove around 8.30. Well done to Lewis and Owen for sterling efforts - and no problem with the distance! Thanks to all for making it so easy. | ||

Not likely to be very hilly.Something slightly different tonight, heading up to Scutchamer's Knob on the Ridgeway. This round bank now surrounded by trees is the remains of an iron age round barrow that became the shire moot during the Middle Ages. Out via Charlton and route 544 we'll take the Ginge Farm track to the East Hendred road and then turn uphill to climb steadily to the Ridgeway. After some exploration, we'll descend to East Hendred, and then take a metalled path across to West Hendred. We'll climb back up to Ginge and then return to Grove via Betterton, Ardington and Lains Barn. Some steady climbing and three long descents all in 18 miles. |
