Tuesday Evening 1* Ride 1*
Leader:
Diana Whidborne
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
Old Mill Hall
Description:
A hillier ride, but very scenic ride this week as we head to Ginge using the quiet roads through Lockinge and Betteron along Sustrans route 544. We'll returning via the Icknield Greenway to Ardington, then back to Grove via Lains Barn (12 miles). Possible pick-up at the start of the Sustrans route (off Larkhill) by prior arrangement.

Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Our leisurely and sociable Tuesday evening 1* rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of 10-15 miles (16-24km) at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph (13-16kph), following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.
Please arrive by 6.20pm for the ride leader's briefing and a prompt start to the ride. We are not always able to wait beyond the start time.

Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
Old Mill Hall
Description:

Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly.

Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. 1.5-2 hour ride at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph)

Also, although we are close to the longest day please bring lights as it may get dusky before we are back.

We can therefore offer a pick-up at Wantage Market Place for this ride. Let Gareth know when signing up.

Eight of us set off from Grove on a lovely evening. Road works with traffic lights along Denchworth Road led to us heading out via the A338 and Wantage Market Place to pick up the Springline Road (B4507). Michael joined us at Childrey and we rode as two groups out to White Horse Hill. We had the expected effort (particularly for those not electrically assisted) to get up the to the usual car park by the road summit. For Paul a little harder as his bike failed to engage the easiest two gears! The weather was warm enough to linger a little and enjoy the achievement and view. After the descent we had a lovely view back with the moon visible in a blue sky over White Horse Hill. John then led one of the groups back at a slightly faster pace than other group. The ideal weather made the ride - and especially the journey back, a delight. I would like to thank John for leading one of the groups and Des for being sweep.

Off Road Tuesday Evening Ride 2*
Leader:
Eddie Little
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
Lord Nelson Charlton Road.
Description:
Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres required and good lights when it gets dark (‘get you home’ lights in Spring/Autumn). We are keen to welcome new riders and can make recommendations or have spare lights to borrow if you let us know. Dark, cold and wet - we’ll ride in any two. But please let us know if you are coming so we can tell you if we decide to cancel due to bad weather or other reasons.

I’m planning to head south up Larkhill, then across to the Ridgeway, down Old Street taking us up through Bluebell Wood, Heath Copse, Dark Lane, Hodcott to Mick Channons Yard at West Ilsley, then back up onto the Ridgeway & across to Betterton & Lockinge. Distance 16.07miles.

Please arrive by 6.20pm for the ride leader's briefing and a prompt start to the ride. We are not always able to wait beyond the start time.

What a fantastic evening for a ride on the trails. Six of us set off taking in the beautiful views of the Ridgeway & the Lockinge & Hendred Estate. As we descended along Old Street Steve & his bike had an encounter with a rather deep & muddy bog. Whoops!! Once poor Steve had cleaned himself up, we were then able to carry on to enjoy the rest of the beautiful evening. The trails were mostly nettle free & in reasonable condition though some areas were a little over grown with tall grass etc. Wildlife spotted - two muntjac at Hodcott Buildings. Well done to all riders who rode extremely well & for being a nice group to spend an evening on the trails with. Also hats off to Steve! Despite Steve being plastered in mud & rather wet, Steve was a good sport & carried on to complete the ride with us. (clap)

A perfect leaving for a lovely ride, one of longer evening ride at 49km, so we progressed at a "steady" pace, with everyone taking the climbs, (Letcombe, Hackpen and Lambourne to Ashbury) at their own pace, and pausing at the tops enjoying the gorgious evening as we regrouped and recovered from our efforts, returned into Grove just as the 2* were returning
