3* Lite Ride | 3* |
---|
Leader:Karen Townsin |
Start Time:9:30 am |
Start Location:WMP |
Description:Description:This is the second in this season's series. The purpose of the 3* lite rides is to give confident 2* riders the chance to try out a 3* ride ride at the lower end of the 3* riding pace. There will be opportunities to experience riding at a faster pace on the flat and to attempt some hills. The atmosphere will be supportive and encouraging and there will be the opportunity to stop for a coffee and a natter at the end. All welcome. Today we'll ride a route similar to a 3* Tuesday evening ride that Andy P led a few weeks ago. It's only 40km but there's 490m of climbing, so plenty of opportunities to practise those hills! We will be taking them at a steady pace and stopping at the top. We ascend the Ridgeway via Court Hill, then wend our way through some pretty West Berkshire villages to climb back up the escarpment before the lovely descent of Chain Hill. Then it's into The Bay Tree Cafe for those who'd like to. |

Waiting at the monument gave us a chance to take some pictures and have a natter, while the pit-stop team did a remarkably quick tube change. The tour of West Berkshire continued, including a small deviation in Leckhamstead to take in the Manor House and views over to Hampshire. Then it was on to Hillgreen, Peasmore and another deviation as we decided to take the route back via Brightwalton rather than toil over the lIsleys. 6 of us then retired to The Bay Tree cafe after finishing with the final swoop down Chain Hill, which was as good as ever. Thanks everyone for an enjoyable ride and to Jon for sweeping duties. | ||
