Description:Please pre-book for this ride by contacting the ride leader. 80-100km (50-65 miles) all-day touring ride, lunch and possibly tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders.PLEASE NOTE: start time changed to 9am to make sure we can park easily We'll start from Hungerford train station car park (£2.30 per day) and head towards Devizes and the first cafe stop at Brogans (31 miles). We'll then cycle along the towpath (good condition) past the Caen Hill locks, which are always an impressive sight. If the towpath isn't considered good enough for cycling on then we can just look at the locks before moving on. We then leave the towpath and go to Marlborough for the sec ond cafe stop in the Cardinal coffee shop (a first for me), before heading back to Hungerford. 63 miles/100km but only 793m of climbing. |

The route out of Hungerford was interesting as we usually came in that way - it's surprising how different everything looks. Lots of rolling hills took us to the outskirts of Devizes, where we took the towpath into town. Brogans cafe had plenty of room and very fast service. We then cycled along the towpath past Caen staircase of locks, which is always an amazing sight. In Marlborough the Cardinal cafe had run out of cake, but luckily another cafe could provide us with all we needed. It was then a short ride back to Hungerford. Quiet roads and lovely scenery, as well as a great group to ride with, made this a good day out. | ||
