Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Boreham |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.Tonight - an amble out via Denchworth, to Lyford, before circling round to West Hanney, then on back to Denchworth, for liquid refreshment at the Optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride, before returning to Grove. Total Distance around 11 miles. Don't forget lights if you plan to stop at the pub and ride home afterwards. |

Riders:Carin TranterCharlotte Clark Martyn Wigmore Michael Tayler Nicky Clark Sheena Arnold Steve Boreham Susan Holdroyd Riders = 8 Weather:Report:A glorious evening and a lovely bunch of eight of us set out. All was running smoothly, however, turns out it set off "with a bang" - quite literally, as Martyn's new small wheeled bike graced us with the instant style puncture part way along the road to Denchworth. Was not feasible to repair on the spot for various reasons, so Martyn contacted the "boss" to come collect him.So, eight became seven. All then continued smoothly, including a leisure stop by Lyford Church. Although the dog in the neighbouring house was not too impressed with our presence. "Chastened", it was time to move on round to West Hanney - via the "new" tarmaced road, which, sadly, is showing its first signs of wear. A slight delay further on when Lottie developed cramp - can happen to any of us. Various movements were tried and it eventually wore off. What more could happen? A second church "pause" in West Hanney, and then on back towards Denchworth, as it was beginning to get cold and the pub beckoned(!). On the way past the Lyford turn....who is that "honing" into view? Could it be Martyn? Yes, Martyn had returned an another bike. Two different bikes on one club ride - a first?? My suggestion that Martyn completed the circuit was declined (no surprise) as was accepted that he had covered as much distance as us, so can definitely be included on the ride! So to the pub - for four of us, with the other four going straight back, to round off a lovely evening. Thanks to all - a pleasure. | ||

Riders:Brian HipwellDes Higgs Gareth Smith John Tranter Karl Blake Lorna Swanton Roger Turnbull Steve Swanton Susie Turnbull Tim Parr Tony Clark Val Smith Riders = 12 Report:Quite a small group and a sunny evening. I was immediately told the route was too long as should be in te he pub by 8, soshortened it by about 2 miles. Out via Denchworth and then left to reach the A415 for a short stretch ant through West Hanney. At the top of the hill we re-grouped and then right down to Childrey, right again and then a wiggle through to Kingston Lisle. Lovely downhill to Baulking and then heading back to Denchworth to the pub. Only to find that the speedy (and shorter route) 3* had got there before us. thanks to Roger for being the Sweeper. | ||
