Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |

Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Update 4:40pm Tues. Unfortunately, the heavy rain last night and showers this afternoon require a change of plan. Rather than use the off-road tracks, we will stick to the road . I will try to reschedule the original route later in the season. The good news is that the sun is now shining and likelihood of further showers this evening is low .Tonight we'll follow one of my favourite 1* routes before our monthly social at the Fox in Denchworth. Out through Denchworth to East Hanney, where we will explore some hidden corners, before using a couple of off-road tracks to make our way back to Denchworth. Although the tracks are slightly rough in places, the sense of being in the middle of nowhere is amazing. A round trip of just over 10 miles. The stop for a drink (many stay for a meal too) with riders from other groups at the Fox is optional, and I am happy to bring riders who can't stop back to Grove. If you plan to stop, please have lights with you if riding home later. Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way. |

Report:A select group of five for our 1* ride tonight. Having cautiously decided to change the route during the afternoon, I was gently persuaded to reconsider. We inspected the two ends of the bridleway around East Hanney playing field and it became clear that everyone was game to give the tracks a go. So we set off on the single-track through the trees, which proved to be just as much fun as usual. My concerns about the effects of rain were unfounded; the tracks were just as dry as when I recc'd them at the weekend. After a rest outside West Hanney church we continued on the track across the fields to Denchworth, stopping at the top of a rise where the track crosses a private farm track. This is a lovely spot, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. And this evening the light was gorgeous with the low sun beaming out from behind a cloud. After a few pictures and some selfie practice we continued carefully over the rougher end of the track to the Denchworth dip. Here we split with 3 riding back to Wantage while Lorna and I headed for the Fox. A very enjoyable meal and chat with other club members ensued. Thanks to the group for being so game .

Not likely to be very hilly.Optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride. A few 'roads less travelled' tonight. Out via Denchworth and Park Lane to Standford in the Vale, then a lovely quiet road from Hatford across to the A420. A short section on the roadside path then brings us to the picturesque village of Buckland, rarely visited on our rides without the accompanying climb of the hill from the Thames valley which we cunningly avoid this evening. After a tour of the village back streets we will follow the quiet lanes back to Charney Bassett and Denchworth. 17 miles to the pub, 19 miles all the way back to Grove. |

Riders:Carin TranterChris Marchant David Jackson Diana Whidborne John Tranter Michael Tayler Robert Treadgold (deceased) Stephanie Haddrell Riders = 8 Weather:Report:Relatively modest numbers this week - perhaps a half term effect, perhaps a slightly dodgy weather forecast. In the event, the clouds thinned out and we enjoyed a lovely sunny evening - although the temperature dropped noticeably as the evening wore on.A good group stayed together well and we had an uneventful and fun ride. Thanks to all for your company!

I'll probably park at Denchworth, so you will need ot make your own way back to Old Mill Hall. Optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride. |

Riders:Andy ChildChris Bailey David Talboys Eddie Little Graeme Dowson James Bosley John Groves Jon Townsin Karen Froud Katherine Boyce Nick Dunton Roger Postbeschild Roger Turnbull Sharon Bedford Susie Turnbull Yvonne Bird Riders = 16 Weather:Report:As I remember it this was a glorious evenings cycling with near perfect weather: a tail wind whenever needed and no head wind . However my extremely witty and interesting first report got lost in the ether so instead of that, you get this!Yvonne did sterling work as the secondary ride leader and Eddie Little kindly was back marker and host to our first time rider. Dave Tallboys kindly swept for our group. I think both Yvonne and I agreed that there were no ride leader duties with either of our groups, even when one of the Faringdon roads were shut! I had deleted my riders list and am certain I have not got all the riders, so please just shout and I'll add you.
