Tuesday evening 1* Ride 1*
Leader:
Steve Swanton
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.

All too soon we've reached the end of our Tuesday Evening ride season. For our last 1* outing, a loop around the Vale, heading out to Goosey green, Charney Bassett and back via Lyford and Denchworth. Essentially flat, just under 12 miles. As the nights are drawing in, lights are required. It is also starting to cool off in the evenings, so an extra layer is recommended.
Report:
Our last 1* evening ride of the season was a relaxed affair without incident. We stopped briefly in each of Denchworth, Goosey and Charney Bassett to check all was well and a chat. In the gathering gloom lights were most definitely required for the last stretch home and we were back in Grove just before 8pm.

Thanks to all those who have helped with leading the 1* rides on a Tuesday this year. It has felt much more like a team effort, making my load a lot easier, which has been much appreciated. I look forward to the resumption next April. And don't forget that Thursday daytime and monthly Saturday afternoon 1* rides continue throughout the year - see you there.

Report:
Ten people rode this final Tuesday evening 2* ride of 2019. With the nights drawing in the ride was shorter than usual and we were back at around 8pm.

The route out as far as the top of Holborn Hill out of Letcombe Bassett was both hilly and largely against the wind. We did have a short stop at the entrance to Challow Cricket Club at top of the hill from East Challow. Those present getting a reminder that this is the venue for the AGM next month. A longer stop at the top of Holborn Hill allowed us to recover before the descents to Childrey and then down to the A417. An uneventful, and largely wind-assisted loop round the lanes from Goosey to Denchworth and then back to Grove completed the ride.

Thanks to Des and Karl as sweeps.

Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather.

Last ride of the evening season already! Finishing on a high :) We'll take a quick trip out to Hackpen Hill from Sparsholt then back via the Letcombes. With the nights drawing in so much we need to keep this short but don’t forget your lights.

Secondary ride leader is...
Report:
Always good to finish the evening season with a hill. It definitely felt autumnal as we split the large number of riders to try and ensure we all got round before the light went! The cunning plan worked and we all arrived at the top of Hackpen within minutes of each other :)

Welcome to Paul on his first ride and many thanks to Nicole for leading the second group and Eddie for sweeping for both rides!

Report:
The final Tuesday evening 4* ride saw four riders turn out, due to the fading light it was only a shortish ride of around 48k/30miles.
We made good speed, with an average pace of around 17.5 mph.
An enjoyable ride, with good company and some decent chain ganging going on, helped to keep the pace high.
We also managed to get back to Wantage before it got too dark. Thanks all.
