Tuesday evening 1* Ride | 1* |
---|
Leader:Steve Swanton |
Start Time:6:30 pm |
Start Location:OMH |
Description:Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.All too soon we've reached the end of our Tuesday Evening ride season. For our last 1* outing, a loop around the Vale, heading out to Goosey green, Charney Bassett and back via Lyford and Denchworth. Essentially flat, just under 12 miles. As the nights are drawing in, lights are required. It is also starting to cool off in the evenings, so an extra layer is recommended. |

Riders:Carin TranterDiana Whidborne Martyn Wigmore Roger Postbeschild Steve Swanton Tim Waite Riders = 6 Weather:Report:Our last 1* evening ride of the season was a relaxed affair without incident. We stopped briefly in each of Denchworth, Goosey and Charney Bassett to check all was well and a chat. In the gathering gloom lights were most definitely required for the last stretch home and we were back in Grove just before 8pm.Thanks to all those who have helped with leading the 1* rides on a Tuesday this year. It has felt much more like a team effort, making my load a lot easier, which has been much appreciated. I look forward to the resumption next April. And don't forget that Thursday daytime and monthly Saturday afternoon 1* rides continue throughout the year - see you there. | ||

Riders:Chris MarchantDes Higgs Gareth Smith John Tranter Karl Blake Lorna Swanton Michael Tayler Robert Treadgold (deceased) Sarah Bowen Val Smith Riders = 10 Report:Ten people rode this final Tuesday evening 2* ride of 2019. With the nights drawing in the ride was shorter than usual and we were back at around 8pm.The route out as far as the top of Holborn Hill out of Letcombe Bassett was both hilly and largely against the wind. We did have a short stop at the entrance to Challow Cricket Club at top of the hill from East Challow. Those present getting a reminder that this is the venue for the AGM next month. A longer stop at the top of Holborn Hill allowed us to recover before the descents to Childrey and then down to the A417. An uneventful, and largely wind-assisted loop round the lanes from Goosey to Denchworth and then back to Grove completed the ride. Thanks to Des and Karl as sweeps. | ||
