We started out in drizzle and a chill wind but it was good to see that all 9 riders were up for the challenge of a slightly longer ride of 31 miles out to Aston Pottery. The planned route included a return via Brook Road which is notorious for flooding so we were aware we may have to return via Bampton and Buckland Marsh. We headed out Charney, Hatford and Littleworth and as we progressed the blue sky appeared. We rode from Clanfield to Aston in sunshine and were pleased to arrive shortly after 11.30 for the obligatory coffee and cakes. The staff were very happy and helpful although they could not advise us about great Brook road. We enjoyed our coffee and cake and social break and decided to give Great Brook a try- a lovely ride along newly surfaced road and the sun shining over the fields. It was not until we were almost out the other side that we met a substantial puddle with an abandoned car in the middle. Passable?? I think not although Peter was considering it. Unfortunately at this point Peter fell and damaged his arm and his gears which meant he could not continue the ride. I stayed with him and Louise very kindly agree to stay to ride back with me. The rest of the group made their way back with the leadership of John Tranter and Des Higgs, I understand without further incident. Myself Louise and Peter walked back to Aston where Peters wife met him. Louise and I then road back via Buckland Marsh Charney and Denchworth. A lovely ride with good company, just very sorry for Peters unfortunate accident and wishing him and his Bike a speedy recovery. Thanks to all for support and understanding. | ||
