Tuesday evening 1* Ride 1*
Leader:
Steve Boreham
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.

Trip out via Stockham, Locks Lane, across to Route 44 to Lockinge, Betterton. Then back via Lanes Barns, before a stunning cut through to West Hanney, before returning via Denchworth. Round about 13 miles.
Report:
Quirky variation on a theme tonight....

Encountered "1 star regulars" who fancied the challenge of 2 star, then other 1 starrers who were open minded. Upshot was that it was decided that the 1 star "group" would tag along with the 2 star - on their route.

This worked "well" until we left Grove! Some of the "1 stars" got held up behind cars (yes the cars held the RIDERS up!) and we lost the 2 star group who had sailed off in the distance not to be seen again.

Not to be deterred, - it was a glorious evening - we carried on, reaching Baulking. Impromptu decision, due to the time, to "browse" in to the village, before curling back, via Park Lane, Asti Stud and home.

The "spur of the moment" change from the billed route seemed to go down well - especially as it was less hilly!

PLUS - we went FURTHER, so hats off all round!

Thank you all for a lovely relaxed informal ride, and thanks to Steve S for great support.

Tuesday Evening 2* Ride 2*
Leader:
Roger Postbeschild
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:

Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly.
Another longish evening ride. There are however options to cut short if conditions dictate.
A pan flat loop out to Fernham, hopefully with a tailwind back!
Please bring lights.
Report:
14 two star riders were kind of joined by 7 one star riders, following the same route.
The one star group took advantage of some short cuts and got back before us!
No mechanicals, no punctures and a good rate of progress, with the promised tail wind home.
The event was kicked off by a 'cake' presentation to Karl, on the occasion of his 100th club ride this season, still just behind Des on the leaderboard!
Distance:
39.60 km (24.61 mi)

Tuesday Evening Off Road Ride 2*
Leader:
David Yearley
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather.

Tuesday Evening 3* Ride 3*
Leader:
Katherine Boyce
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:

Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly. Fingers crossed there will be hills tonight after the last 2 weeks of rain reducing play! It must be surely time to do the full Dragon, down to Uffington via the Springline villages and all the way to the views on White Horse Hill. Then a mellow return via Baulking, Goosey and Denchworth.

Secondary ride leader will be revealed.....
Report:
Note to self: just because it's August, a hilly ride and a few weeks since we've needed a second ride leader doesn't mean that you won't need one this week :$ Thanks to John T for leading a second group.

With everyone being so bike fit at this end of the season, we went up and down the hills with very little problem. Having a large van follow us up White Horse Hill was interesting!

Always good to get a last trip up White Horse Hill as the nights are drawing in.

Description:

Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly.
Riders:
Frank Schroer

Jason Jones
Pete Wrench
Philip Ingles

Weather:
sunny intervals
Report:
This being a ride that was originally planned for next week but then rescheduled for this one meant we had a bit more daylight, so as such a loop through Aston was added on the originally planned route.

Phil joined us from Gainfield and left us at Stanford.

At the turn at the end of Cow Lane just before Denchworth those that started from Wantage took a direct route home and the rest returned to Grove. The daylight started to just disappear by then so this was well timed.
